LAHORE: Babar Azam has been appointed as the captain of the Pakistan Test team for the tour of West Indies and England.
The national Test squad was announced by selection committee member Aqib Javed. Asad Shafiq and former captain Misbah-ul-Haq were also present with him.
Pakistan’s 16-member squad includes Babar Azam as captain, Shan Masood, Imam-ul-Haq, Azan Owais, Abdullah Fazal, Salman Ali Agha, Ghazi Ghauri and Muhammad Rizwan.
The squad also includes Sajid Khan, Ali Usman, Aamir Jamal, Muhammad Ali, Muhammad Abbas, Obaid Shah, Owais Zafar and Khurram Shahzad.
Middle-order batsman Saud Shakeel is not part of the squad due to fitness issues.
The Pakistan team will start the tour with Test matches against the West Indies, the national team will play a warm-up match in Troubadour on July 18.
The first Test between Pakistan and West Indies will be played in Troubadour from July 25 to 29.
Speaking on the occasion, Aqib Javed said that Asad Shafiq and I have been in the selection committee for 18 months, Misbah-ul-Haq and Sarfaraz Ahmed have been in it for 6 months.
He said that there are 3 formats and you have to see what your performance is in which format.
