ISLAMABAD: Rain with strong winds and thunderstorms has been predicted in various parts of the country. According to the Meteorological Department, widespread rain is likely in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Islamabad, upper and central Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan, while on the contrary, intense heat and humidity will persist in the southern parts of the country.
The weather has become pleasant in Islamabad due to light and heavy rain in some places, while the weather will remain hot and humid in most districts of Balochistan province, while wind and rain have been predicted in the areas of Khuzdar, Musakhel, Sherani, Kohlu, Zhob and Barkhan.
The rain continues in Abbottabad and its surroundings, due to which rivers and canals have overflowed and the road has taken on the appearance of a pond due to water accumulation on the Silk Road, which has severely affected the traffic system.
Visibility has become zero in the areas of Galiyat due to rain and heavy fog. The Galiat Development Authority (GDA) has issued important instructions for tourists in this situation.
The GDA says that “tourists should avoid traveling towards Nathia Gali and Donga Gali and never park their vehicles in landslide-prone areas.”
On the other hand, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a flash flood alert for the mountainous areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to the NDMA, there is a serious risk of melting glaciers in Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by July 25, due to which the flow of water in rivers and drains may increase significantly.
The NDMA has expressed concerns about floods and landslides in Hunza, Nagar, Skardu, Shigar, Astore and Diamer, while Upper and Lower Chitral and their adjacent areas have been declared highly sensitive.
Light rain has also been recorded in different parts of the city in Lahore, the capital of Punjab, on which WASA has released all the data.
According to WASA, the highest rainfall was recorded in Gulshan Ravi at 34.2 mm and in Samanabad at 31.6 mm, while 17.4 mm was recorded in Sigian, 11.6 mm in Farrukhabad, 11 mm in Iqbal Town, 6.8 mm in Laxmi Chowk, 1.4 mm in Pani Wala Talab, 0.4 mm in Chowk Nakhda, and 0.2 mm in Head Office Gulberg and Nishtar Town.
However, no rain was recorded in the areas of Jail Road, Airport, Upper Mall, Mughalpura and Tajpura. WASA administration is on alert on the drainage situation in Lahore.
MD WASA Ghufran Ahmed is continuously monitoring this drainage operation himself, while all WASA field teams are active on the roads for the immediate cleaning of rainwater in the city and the convenience of citizens.
