Beirut: The occupying Israeli army, in the name of a military operation against Hezbollah, has committed atrocities and barbarities in southern Lebanon, violating basic human rights and international law.
Lebanon’s official news agency, the National News Agency, has claimed that the Israeli army fired white phosphorus shells at various areas of southern Lebanon late at night, as a result of which olive groves and pine forests caught fire.
The official news agency claimed that the areas targeted by the Israeli forces with white phosphorus shells between Sunday and Monday night include Yaron, Haroun and Bint Jbeil.
The report states that shortly after 1 a.m. that same night, Israeli warplanes also carried out an airstrike on the suburbs of Nabatiya al-Fouqa, while an Israeli drone also dropped a sound bomb on the location of Beit al-Sayyad.
Israel has not yet responded immediately to the claim by the Lebanese official news agency, but the Zionist army is now engaged in heavy military action against Hezbollah in Lebanon after Gaza.
In addition, when an attempt was made to get a position from the Israeli army on these allegations, the Israeli authorities neither denied nor confirmed it officially.
According to the human rights organization Amnesty International, white phosphorus is a flammable substance whose use is subject to strict conditions under international humanitarian law because it can cause severe burns, deep burns and serious risks to civilians.
Although its use for certain military purposes is not completely prohibited, its use on or near any civilian population, residential areas or civilian installations can be considered a violation of international humanitarian law.
It should be noted that tension has continued in recent months on the border between southern Lebanon and Israel, where intermittent air strikes, drone operations and cross-border shelling have been reported.
