ISLAMABAD: The Meteorological Department has predicted thunderstorms and hailstorms in different parts of the country. Thunderstorms and rains are expected in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Dir, Swat, Malam Jabba, Kohistan and Bajaur, while rain is also likely in Kalam, Chitral, Buner, Kohat, Abbottabad and Peshawar.
Thunderstorms have also been predicted in Swabi, Mardan, Malakand, Parachinar, Kurram and Waziristan. The Meteorological Department has directed citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and take precautionary measures.
On the other hand, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert in view of severe weather conditions across the country from May 26 to 31. According to the NDMA, the risk of flooding, landslides and glacial lake outburst floods has increased due to rainfall in the upper reaches, rising temperatures and rapid melting of glaciers.
Thunderstorms and hailstorms are expected in various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, Punjab, Balochistan and Sindh. Rain is expected in several cities including Chitral, Swat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Parachinar, Gilgit, Skardu, Muzaffarabad, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi and Quetta.
The NDMA has warned of landslides and riverine inundation, especially in Hunza, Nagar, Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, Chitral, Dir, Swat and Kohistan. There is also a possibility of closure of important highways including the Karakoram Highway, Naran Road and Jaglot-Skardu Road.
