MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin has praised Iran’s ‘Mosquito Fleet’ of small, fast boats, saying that these boats are proving effective in combat operations thanks to modern technology and weapons.
According to the Russian state news agency Sputnik News Agency, during a meeting with Russian naval officers, Putin referred to the Middle East conflict and said, “Look at what is happening in the Middle East conflict zone. Iran has made its combat operations quite effective by using its Mosquito Fleet.”
Putin said, “This is a matter of new technologies. We also have such small ships, they weigh less but are equipped with the latest weapons.”
According to Sputnik, Iran’s Mosquito Fleet includes about 20 Ghadir-class small submarines and several thousand fast attack boats.
According to the report, these light and fast ships can be hidden in tunnels built in Iran’s rocky coastline, making it difficult for the United States to target them with long-range weapons.
