ISLAMABAD: The preliminary investigation report of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) tragedy has been submitted to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Sources say that the report was submitted to the office of Prime Minister’s Advisor Tauqir Shah late last night. Former Interior Secretary Shahid Khan, head of the inquiry committee, sent the report to the Prime Minister.
Sources said that the Prime Minister has also been informed about the contents and recommendations of the report. Sources of the inquiry committee have confirmed that the report has been sent to the Prime Minister’s Office, and the Prime Minister has been authorized to make the report public.
Three days ago, on August 26, 14 newborn babies in the nursery died in a fire in the neonatal ward of PIMS, for which Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had formed a high-level committee to investigate.
According to sources, the report also mentions treatment and inadequate facilities at PIMS Hospital. The report states that nothing in the hospital is as per international standards. The report recommends immediate action against those responsible to the Prime Minister.
Sources say that the report is signed by all members of the inquiry committee, the committee has also determined the causes and those responsible for the PIMS tragedy.
The report also mentions the problems faced by the rescue teams in the relief operations, action has been taken against the relevant absent PIMS staff and recommendations have been given to avoid such accidents in the future, interviews with the PIMS administration and doctors have also been made part of the report, and statements from the fire brigade rescue teams are also included in the report.
