ISLAMABAD: National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has increased electricity prices by Rs 2.58 per unit for electricity consumers across the country in the form of monthly and quarterly fuel price adjustment, a formal notification of which has also been issued. This decision of NEPRA will be applicable to the consumers of all distribution companies (Discos), including K-Electric.
According to the notification issued, electricity has been increased by Rs 2.6 per unit in the form of monthly fuel price adjustment (FPA) for July 2026. This monthly increase will be applied in the electricity bills of September, which will transfer an additional financial burden of about Rs 33 billion to consumers across the country.
On the other hand, NEPRA has also issued a decision for the fourth quarterly adjustment (April to June 2026) of the current financial year, under which it has been approved to increase electricity prices by 52 paisa per unit. NEPRA has sent this decision to the federal government for final approval. This quarterly adjustment amount will be collected in the bills for the three months of September to November 2026, which will result in consumers having to pay an additional Rs 12.67 billion.
These lump-sum decisions of monthly and quarterly adjustments by NEPRA will impose a total financial burden of more than Rs 45.67 billion on electricity consumers, which is likely to severely increase the difficulties of the people who are already suffering from inflation and high prices.
