Chennai: India defeated Zimbabwe by a huge margin of 72 runs in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, achieving a significant victory.
Chasing India’s 257, Zimbabwe’s team managed to score 184 runs for the loss of 6 wickets.
In the match played in Chennai, Zimbabwe won the toss and invited India to bat first.
The Indian batsmen took out the Zimbabwean bowlers, hitting fours and sixes to make the highest score of the ongoing event and the second highest in history.
India posted a mountain of 256 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. The Indian batsmen hit a total of 17 sixes in the innings.
For India, Sanju Samson scored 24, Abhishek Sharma scored 55, Ishan Kishan scored 38 and captain Suryakumar Yadav scored 33 runs. In the final overs, Hardik Pandya and Tilak Verma took out the Zimbabwean bowlers. Pandya scored 53 off 23 balls and Tilak Verma remained unbeaten on 44 off 16 balls.
India’s 256 runs is the second highest score in the history of the T20 World Cup. Earlier, Sri Lanka scored 260 runs against Kenya in the T20 World Cup in 2007.
Apart from this, this is the highest score so far in the T20 World Cup 2026. Recently, the West Indies scored 254 runs against Zimbabwe. This is India’s highest score against any team in the T20 World Cup.
