The Embassy of Denmark celebrated Danish Constitution Day with a reception in Islamabad on Saturday, bringing together senior government officials, diplomats, representatives of development organizations, civil society members, academics, media professionals and business leaders to highlight the growing partnership between Denmark and Pakistan.

Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Musadik Malik attended the event as the chief guest. Held under the theme “Denmark & Pakistan: Partners for a Sustainable Future,” the reception underscored the longstanding friendship between the two countries and their shared commitment to sustainable development, climate action, innovation and inclusive growth.
Addressing the gathering, Musadik Malik congratulated Danish Ambassador Maja Derrous Mortensen on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan and highlighted the expanding cooperation between the two nations. He said the relationship had evolved into a broad-based partnership encompassing sustainable development, renewable energy, water resource management, governance reforms, trade, climate resilience and people-to-people exchanges.
The minister noted that Pakistan remains among the countries most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change despite contributing only a small fraction of global greenhouse gas emissions. He stressed that climate change was not merely an environmental challenge but also a development and economic issue that required collective global action.
“Pakistan highly values Denmark’s support and expertise in areas such as green technology, renewable energy and sustainable urban development,” Malik said. “Our partnership demonstrates how countries can work together to build resilience, create economic opportunities and improve the lives of their people.”
He further said that Pakistan was committed to pursuing a climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable growth model, adding that international cooperation would play a vital role in achieving national climate and development goals. He also invited Danish investors and companies to explore opportunities in Pakistan’s renewable energy, green infrastructure and environmental technology sectors.
Earlier, in her welcome remarks, Ambassador Maja Mortensen emphasized the importance of international partnerships in addressing global challenges and advancing sustainable development goals.
“The relationship between Denmark and Pakistan is built on trust, shared values, and a commitment to finding solutions together. As we look to the future, our partnership will continue to be guided by innovation, sustainability, and a belief that lasting progress is achieved through collaboration,” she said.
The ambassador observed that both countries were increasingly working together on shared priorities, including climate adaptation, green growth and sustainable economic development. She encouraged stronger engagement among public institutions, businesses, researchers and development partners to unlock new opportunities for cooperation.
The event also served as a platform for networking and dialogue among stakeholders from diverse sectors. Participants explored avenues for collaboration in innovation, climate resilience and sustainable economic growth, while discussing ways to create greater opportunities for future generations.
Guests appreciated Denmark’s continued engagement with Pakistan and its support for initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
As Denmark marked its Constitution Day, the embassy reaffirmed its commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties and supporting partnerships that contribute to prosperity, innovation and a more sustainable future for both countries.
The well-attended reception concluded with a renewed resolve from both sides to deepen cooperation and work together in addressing common challenges through shared solutions, mutual respect and a shared vision for sustainable progress.
