ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Weather Update, the weather will remain cold and dry in most parts of the country during the next 24 hours, while severe cold is expected in the hilly areas. Moderate to severe fog is predicted in the plains of Punjab, upper Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while haze is likely to occur in the Potohar region and Kashmir in the morning hours.
Fog has covered Lahore city and traffic and daily life are being affected due to low visibility. According to the Meteorological Department, the current temperature of the city is 5 degrees Celsius and the humidity ratio in the air was recorded at 94 percent. Winds are blowing at a speed of two kilometers per hour in the city, due to which the cold intensity persists. There is no possibility of rain in the next 24 hours, however, fog and cold intensity are predicted to persist.
Experts have said that westerly winds will enter the upper areas from January 16, after which light rain is also expected in Lahore. Citizens have been directed to avoid unnecessary outings and take precautionary measures while traveling.
The city of Quaid-e-Azam continues to experience a severe cold wave and the temperature has dropped to single digits. According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum night temperature in Karachi was recorded at 9 degrees Celsius, while the mercury was only 11 degrees Celsius in the morning. Along with the cold weather, Karachi’s air quality has deteriorated to an alarming extent. According to the Global Air Quality Index, the city is currently ranked sixth among the most polluted cities in the world. According to experts, the amount of particulate matter in the city’s air was recorded at 182 particulate matter meters (PM), which is harmful to human health.
On the other hand, the weather in the northern parts of the country, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and adjacent areas will remain partly cloudy and light rain and snowfall are also expected at a few places. Today, the minimum temperature was recorded at minus 13 degrees Celsius in Skardu, minus 11 in Leh and Astore, minus 9 in Gopis and minus 8 degrees Celsius in Gilgit. In other cities, Islamabad recorded 0 degrees Celsius, Quetta minus 1, Murree minus 1, Lahore 2, Karachi 8, Sukkur 3, Mithi 0, Peshawar 1 and Muzaffarabad recorded 1 degree Celsius.
