COLOMBO: Sri Lanka made a winning start in the sixth match of the T20 World Cup, defeating Ireland by 20 runs.
Batting first, Sri Lanka scored 163 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs, in reply, Ireland’s team was bowled out for 143 runs in the 20th over.
For Sri Lanka, Kisal Mendis led with 56 runs and Kamando Mendis with 44 runs. Ireland’s Beir McCarthy and George Dockrell sent 2 players to the pavilion each.
Ireland’s Ross Adair stood out with 34, Heer Tector 40 and Lorcan Tucker 21 runs. Sri Lanka’s Mahesh Tekshana and Whindu Harasanga showed excellent bowling and took 3 wickets each.
