Amman — Renowned artist, researcher, and international exhibition curator Janaritta Armooti has officially announced the publication of her new reference book, From Black to White: The Janaritta System for Visual Color Encoding, available in both Arabic and English.
The publication follows the formal documentation of Armooti’s work and the registration of its intellectual property, as well as the assignment of an International Standard Book Number (ISBN) by the National Library of Jordan.
From an Art Exhibition to a Documented Visual System
The book presents the Janaritta System, a visual methodology first introduced by Armooti during her 2021 solo exhibition, From Black to White. Developed from her experience as an artist and international exhibition curator, the system seeks to establish a structured way of interpreting color in contemporary and abstract art.
Armooti’s approach is based on assigning a specific letter to each color. Through this system, combinations of colors can be translated into sequences of letters, allowing an artwork to be approached as a readable visual text rather than solely as an abstract arrangement of colors.
The methodology is particularly intended for modern and abstract artworks in which color plays a central role in expression. By connecting colors with letters, the system aims to provide viewers with a framework for examining and decoding the visual relationships within an artwork while creating a more direct form of communication between the artist and the audience.
A Reference for the Language of Color
Reflecting on the publication, Janaritta Armooti said:
“As an artist and international exhibition curator, I identified a need for a language that could help unify our understanding of contemporary and abstract art. My 2021 exhibition was not merely an art display; it marked the introduction of the Janaritta System. Today, I am pleased to move this system from exhibition spaces into a documented reference, making its principles available to those who wish to study color and use it with greater logic, structure, and artistic intention.”
The book documents the foundational principles of the Janaritta System and positions the methodology as a reference for artists, researchers, students, curators, and audiences interested in the relationship between color, visual language, and artistic communication.
