CALIFORNIA: A US F-35B fighter jet crashed in San Diego, California, US.
According to the US Marine Aircraft Group 11, the single-seat F-35B fighter jet crashed before reaching the runway at the Marine Corps Air Station in California at around 10 am local time.
The US military said in a statement that the pilot parachuted out of the plane and was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, where his condition was reported to be out of danger.
After the accident, airport firefighters managed to control the wreckage of the plane and the grass fire that had broken out around it.
The cause of the plane crash was not immediately known, while the US military has launched an investigation into the incident.
It should be noted that the F-35B Lightning II is considered one of the world’s most advanced stealth fighter jets, which is capable of vertical landing in addition to conventional landing.
The aircraft is estimated to cost around US$102 million and is used by the US Marine Corps, the British and Italian air forces.
