US Charge d’Affaires Natalie Baker reiterates American resolve to uphold freedom across the world
ISLAMABAD: (By Zubair Qureshi) The Embassy of the United States of America Saturday evening hosted a spectacular reception at its premises in the Diplomatic Enclave to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American Independence, bringing together a diverse gathering of political leaders, diplomats, business executives, civil society representatives, artists, sports personalities, academics, minority leaders and friends of the United States from across Pakistan.
Held under the inspiring theme of “Freedom 250” the reception transformed the sprawling lawns of the US Embassy into a vibrant celebration of American history, values and enduring friendship with Pakistan.
Decorated with American symbols, stars, flags and dazzling lights reflecting the colours of the United States, the venue offered guests a memorable glimpse into the spirit and traditions of America.
The evening commenced with the national anthems of Pakistan and the United States, underscoring the longstanding relationship between the two countries. Guests were later treated to a variety of popular American food brands.
The more than three-hour-long celebration featured live performances by both American and Pakistani musicians, creating an energetic and joyful environment.
The festivities culminated with a colorful fireworks display that illuminated the Islamabad sky and drew enthusiastic applause from the audience.
In her welcome remarks, US Chargé d’Affaires Ms. Natalie A. Baker highlighted the significance of the occasion and reflected on America’s 250-year journey as a champion of freedom, democracy and opportunity.
Elegantly dressed in a stunning deep-blue evening gown that reflected grace and confidence, Ms. Baker embodied the warmth and hospitality that characterized the evening. Standing before a backdrop emblazoned with the word “Freedom” and symbols of American heritage, she welcomed guests with a message of friendship and partnership.
She described US-Pakistan relations as examplary being built on strong foundations of mutual trust, cooperation and camaraderie. Recalling the historic ties between the two countries, she noted that the United States recognized Pakistan within days of its independence and has remained a steadfast partner ever since.
Ms. Baker also referred to US President Donald Trump’s appreciation for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Asim Munir and their team for their efforts toward regional peace and stability. She emphasized that both countries continue to work together in areas ranging from security and trade to education, innovation and people-to-people exchanges.
The Chargé d’Affaires said that freedom remained one of the defining ideals of the United States and continues to inspire generations around the world. She noted that the anniversary offered an opportunity not only to celebrate America’s past achievements but also to reaffirm its commitment to liberty, diversity, inclusion and human dignity.
The reception was notable for its inclusiveness, bringing together representatives of virtually every segment of Pakistani society.
The guests mingled freely while enjoying American cuisine, cultural performances and conversations reflecting the strong people-to-people ties that have connected Pakistan and the United States for nearly eight decades.
The smartly turned out staff of the US Embassy ensured that guests were warmly received and comfortably hosted throughout the evening. Senior embassy officials, including Captain Andrew O’Connor, Consul General Stetson Sanders and Minister Counselor Andy Halus, were seen personally interacting with guests and extending hospitality, reflecting a hallmark of American culture and openness.
The celebration served as a reminder of the rich values that have shaped the United States over the past 250 years—freedom, innovation, diversity, resilience and community service. It also highlighted the enduring friendship between the people of Pakistan and the United States, making the event one of the most vibrant and well-attended diplomatic receptions of the year in Islamabad.
