ISLAMABAD: The heatwave broke after the rain in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
Light and heavy rains were recorded in different areas of the twin cities, while cool winds made the weather more attractive.
Due to the rain, the temperature dropped significantly and the citizens got relief from the sweltering heat and humidity that had been going on for several days, however, traffic flow was affected due to water accumulation in some low-lying areas.
According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of more rain and thunderstorms in the twin cities and surrounding areas during the next few hours, which is expected to make the weather pleasant.
According to the Meteorological Department, a total of 17 mm of rain was recorded in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, with the highest rainfall of 39 mm in Shamsabad, 32 in H8, 28 in Gowalmandi and 26 mm in Katarian.
In view of the rain in the twin cities, WASA has been put on high alert, while staff and heavy machinery have been deployed in the low-lying areas.
According to Managing Director WASA Azizullah Khan, drainage work is underway in Liaquat Bagh, Committee Chowk Underpass, Murree Road, Sadiqabad and other low-lying areas, while continuous monitoring of Nala Lei is being carried out. The flow of water in Nala Lei is still normal.
WASA spokesperson said that on the instructions of MD WASA, field officers are monitoring the drainage work themselves to ensure timely drainage of rainwater.
WASA has appealed to citizens to avoid throwing garbage in drains and gutters and to avoid keeping the lids open so as not to obstruct the drainage system. MD WASA has directed citizens to contact WASA helpline immediately in any emergency situation.
In addition, while talking to Hum News’ program Subh Se Aaj, Deputy Director of Meteorological Department Anjum Nazir Zeigham said that the current series of rains in the twin cities may continue for another two days, due to which the temperature will drop.
According to Anjum Nazir, stormy weather with gusty winds and strong winds is likely in different parts of the country, while thundershowers are also expected in some areas.
The Deputy Director of the Meteorological Department said that the weather will remain relatively pleasant in the upper and central regions, while the heat is likely to continue in most areas of Balochistan and Sindh.
He also directed the citizens to take precautionary measures in view of the weather situation and follow the instructions of the Meteorological Department.
