Employees stage a sit-in at Islamabad Airport against the privatization of PIA. The protest sit-in organized by the People’s Unity of PIA Employees Union was held yesterday in all stations of Pakistan including Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Quetta, Islamabad and other cities.
People’s Unity President Ramzan Leghari, General Secretary Sohail Mukhtar and other officials and employees raised slogans against the privatization of PIA at Islamabad Airport like the rest of the country. Employees of the Islamabad Airport Section participated in large numbers. Speaking on the occasion, People’s Unity President Ramzan Leghari and General Secretary Sohail Mukhtar said that the People’s Unity of PIA Employees Union categorically rejects the proposed privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) by the current government.
We declare that any attempt to seize this national symbol and flag carrier through illegal, unconstitutional or ill-intentioned means will not succeed. Offering an organization with a total asset value of Rs 1,200 billion at a low price of just Rs 270 billion is not only a clear example of dishonesty but also a national treason that cannot be ignored. We announce full efforts to stop the privatization of PIA. Looting in the name of privatization will be stopped at all costs. If privatization is inevitable, the employment of employees should also be assured. General Secretary Sohail Mukhtar said that if PIA’s operations have to be stopped, that too will be done.
All stations of Pakistan Karachi, Lahore, Quetta Peaceful protests will continue at airports in all cities including Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Quetta, Islamabad and others until the employees’ job security is assured and the privatization of PIA is stopped
