ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has categorically rejected the statement of US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard regarding Pakistan’s missile program.
Spokesperson of the Foreign Office Tahir Andrabi has said that Pakistan’s strategic capabilities are purely defensive in nature, aimed at protecting national sovereignty.
The Foreign Office spokesperson said that Pakistan’s missile program is to maintain peace and stability in the region, Pakistan’s missile program is not part of any aggressive ambitions.
Tahir Andrabi said that Pakistan’s missile program is far below the intercontinental range, Pakistan’s missile program is based on the principle of a credible minimum defensive capability.
The spokesperson added that India’s missile capabilities with a range of more than 12,000 kilometers are a cause of concern more than regional security.
He added that Pakistan seeks a relationship based on mutual respect, non-discrimination and facts with the United States.
The Foreign Office spokesperson said that a balanced and responsible approach is necessary for peace, security and stability in South Asia.
It should be noted that during a hearing in the US Senate Committee, US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said that Pakistan’s long-range missile program could potentially include intercontinental ballistic missiles that are capable of hitting targets as far as the United States.
The US Director of National Intelligence said that Pakistan, as well as Russia, China, North Korea and Iran, are researching advanced missiles that are capable of carrying nuclear and conventional weapons and can target the United States.
