ISLAMABAD: A suicide attack during Friday prayers at the Khadijatul Kubra Mosque and Imambargah in the Tarlai area of Islamabad killed 31 people and injured 150.
According to police sources, the suicide bomber blew himself up when he was stopped at the gate of the mosque. The attacker belonged to Fitna al-Khawarij.
The injured were shifted to the hospital, emergency was declared in the polyclinic and PIMS, while security agencies were put on high alert.
After the explosion, law enforcement agencies and bomb squads reached the scene. The blast site was sealed.
According to hospital authorities, the total number of injured in the blast is more than 100, where 60 were brought to PIMS Hospital, 13 to Polyclinic, 27 to Federal General Hospital and 2 to Benazir Hospital.
On the other hand, President Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other leaders have condemned the blast and expressed grief over the loss of human lives.
