On the instructions of the Ministry of Energy, Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has imposed a temporary ban on the installation of solar green meters, resulting in thousands of residential and industrial consumers being deprived of the solar green meter facility.
According to LESCO officials, there were permissions and guidelines from NEPRA for installing solar green meters; however, under a recent decision, the Ministry of Energy has ordered to stop the installation of green meters.
LESCO administration stated that they are bound to follow the orders of the Ministry of Energy, which is why the installation of solar green meters has been immediately suspended.
Officials said that this ban could remain in place for one to two months, during which time a new solar green meter policy is likely to be formulated. Only after the issuance of the new policy will the process of installing green meters resume.
According to LESCO officials, due to the ban, even those consumers who had already installed solar systems and submitted applications for green meters will be affected. These consumers will now have to wait for the announcement of the new policy.
