ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Weather Update, the NDMA has issued an alert regarding severe weather conditions.
The National Emergency Operations Center of the NDMA has issued an alert of possible severe cold wave in Gilgit-Baltistan, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir.
Severe cold weather is expected in the coming days until the end of January at night and in the morning hours, moderate to heavy snowfall is likely in the upper areas, connecting roads, transport and power supply may be affected.
Possible snowfall in mountainous areas may increase the risk of avalanches and landslides, the public has been appealed to be careful.
The NDMA has said in the alert that severe cold and snowfall can affect the health of children, the elderly and the sick, take precautionary measures.
Cold and dry weather and hail/frost are likely in some places in the plains, there is a possibility of damage to crops and gardens. It has been directed to avoid unnecessary travel in mountainous areas and to use safety chains on vehicle tires in snowy areas.
The alert has said that during severe cold weather, use warm clothes and heaters safely, and take special care of children, elderly and sick people.
Provincial institutions and district administrations have been directed to take advance measures and ensure the availability of necessary machinery in view of possible snowfall in mountainous areas.
It has been directed to ensure measures for movement by keeping in mind the resources available at tourist destinations, especially the availability of residential places.
